Seasonal Dropshipping: Planning for Q4 and Other Peaks

seasonalplanningscalingholidays

September through December, dropshipping sales triple. May through August, they stall. Most dropshippers react to this by ramping up orders in Q4 and watching everything break: Amazon account warnings, eBay late-shipment spikes, margin collapse from sudden price wars.

The seasonality trap

A 10x sales spike in 3 months looks like opportunity. But it's actually a trap if your infrastructure can't handle it: suddenly you're placing 40 orders/day when you've never done more than 5. Your one Amazon account gets velocity flagged. Your daily listing checks miss stockouts because demand is so high. Price drops by 30% across your whole catalog because 100 other dropshippers had the same idea.

Preparing in September

January strategy

Q4 ends, sales drop 70%, and most dropshippers panic. Instead, use January to clean: identify which SKUs actually had good margins in Q4, which ones you need to delist, and which categories you're going to focus on for next year. Don't carry dead weight into slow season.
