Choosing Dropshipping Products: Competition, Velocity, and Margin

product selectionsourcingcompetition

Every dropshipper starts the same way: find a product with a low Amazon price and a high eBay price, list it, and wait for orders. Most realize too late that the gap everyone sees is the same gap competing with, and margin evaporates from there.

What actually works

Niches where information asymmetry exists: products where eBay buyers are willing to pay more because they trust the listing details (accurate compatibility info, bundled accessories, verified condition) more than a generic Amazon listing. Niche electronics, craft supplies, hard-to-find older models — places where a 10–15% margin exists because of trust, not just price arbitrage.

And velocity matters: a product selling every 3–4 days at $10 profit beats one selling monthly at $50 profit, because you can actually iterate on pricing and optimization.
